How do you create the ideal working climate?
How can I support my employees in their development? What is the ideal working climate for them? The XOET scan was developed to provide insight into these questions. The scan is part of the XOET method, which focuses on better cooperation between employee and manager and how to create an optimal work climate. The method has been successfully applied in the sports world for years, such as in the youth training programs of major soccer clubs and in in-service training for soccer coaches at the KNVB, and won the National Sports Innovator Prize in 2018. With the funding from SportInnovator belonging to this prize, MarketResponse built the software that displays the results of the scan.
The XOET scan offers innovative insights
XOET was founded in 2017 by Laura Jonker. She developed the XOET scan method in collaboration with the University of Groningen. The XOET scan offers an innovative approach. In the workplace, the focus is often on personality profiles and motivational preferences. These provide clear insight into drives, but not what that means for cooperation tomorrow. Among other things, it is the cooperation between manager and employee that ensures the job satisfaction of employees. This is where the XOET scan method responds directly by measuring this cooperation along the experienced and desired support on self-regulation and intrinsic motivation. This means that employees and managers see how employees relate to the current work climate and what you can do to empower them.
The method is based on scientific research conducted in sports. This shows that athletes who self-regulate, feel supported in this by their coach and are intrinsically motivated, perform better in the long term. The XOET scan method has been used for years in the sports world and is now also applied in business and education.
Real-time portal developed by MarketResponse
The XOET scan is conducted using an online questionnaire. The results are then displayed real-time in a portal built by MarketResponse. The collaboration with XOET began in 2019. The assignment was to give XOET’s clients an accessible and clear tool to improve the cooperation between coach and coachee. At that time, results were still entered and handled manually. Laura Jonker of XOET was looking for a software solution that the market did not offer. She came to MarketResponse and we translated her wishes into a tool.
Since 2019, the portal has been further developed into a mature application, fully customized per user. The XOET scan is customized and we built the tool on that. Coaches or managers can view the results of the scan directly at the individual and team level. Athletes or employees can also see their own results in the portal.
A close collaboration with XOET
The software was built in close cooperation with Laura Jonker and our team of experienced programmers. From MarketResponse, we brought our years of experience in market research, technological expertise and knowledge of building a custom research portal. XOET provided the expertise in building questionnaires to measure psychology, and through the handiwork in the pilot phase, there was a clear picture of what the software needed to be able to do. ‘The collaboration was truly collaborative,’ says Laura Jonker. ‘It was nice to feel heard and to feel that MarketResponse was always looking for the best software application and in case of setbacks looking for a joint solution.’
Valuable tool to guide athletes and also employees
Users of the XOET scan method from the sports world indicate that it is a valuable tool in coaching athletes. The youth academies of major soccer clubs, such as PSV, FC Groningen, SC Heerenveen and FC Twente/Heracles, among others, are satisfied with the tool. Also the KNVB and Ajax Coaching Academy. Coaches who have used the XOET-scan think it has made them a better coach (score 8.3) and recommend the method to other coaches (score 9.1).
Also outside the sports world, more and more organizations see the value of the XOET-scan method, such as Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen, MBO Menso Alting and Luchtverkeersleiding Nederland.
